Physical development is fully immersed within the curriculum, linking movement with phonics and mathematics through creative, themed activities that build coordination, confidence and enjoyment from the very start.
Pupils develop:
All pupils from Years 1–6 learn to swim. Attenborough swim weekly during the Autumn term, Old Park in the Spring term and Hartspring in the Summer term. Lessons take place in the Olympic-sized pool at Bushey Grove Leisure Centre and are delivered by specialist swimming instructors, supported by our own staff.
Gymnastics and dance are also taught by specialist instructors from the leisure centre. Each class receives a weekly 50-minute session, alternating half-termly between gym and dance. In gymnastics, pupils work towards award badges and certificates, while dance units culminate in a short performance for parents.
Games lessons for Hartspring, Attenborough and Old Park are taught on the astroturf pitches at Bushey Grove. Across the year, pupils experience rugby, football, netball, hockey, cricket and rounders. Sessions focus on skill development, fitness and personal improvement, with an emphasis on participation and enjoyment.
