The Montessori Nursery and Playgroup together cater for all children over two years of age. The Montessori practice aims to cultivate a child’s own natural desire to learn and this objective is approached in two ways:1. by allowing each child to experience the excitement of learning through choice;2. by helping each child to develop all his/her natural tools for learning. |

The Montessori materials have this dual purpose but also provide specific immediate information, so that the child spontaneously learns in work and at play. The materials used focus the child’s mind, to absorb specific information from the environment. |

A child’s mental development is greatest before the age of eight years and it is important, therefore, that favourable |

conditions are offered and emphasised during these optimum impressionable years. The role of the Montessori teacher, materials and classroom ambience all enhance the child’s potential to gain from the learning experiences available. Visits and outings play an essential part in the quality of the Montessori practice, and French, music and dance are taught by peripatetic teachers. |
